Barium dithionate is an inorganic chemical compound of barium from the group of dithionates .

Extraction and presentation

Barium dithionate can be obtained by reacting manganese dithionate solution with barium hydroxide .

properties

Barium dithionate, in the form of a dihydrate, is a colorless, air-stable solid that is easily soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol. When heated, the water of crystallization is released at 120 ° C, and from 140 ° C onwards there is a noticeable decomposition with evolution of sulfur dioxide and the formation of barium sulfate .

It has a monoclinic crystal structure with the space group C 2 / c (space group no. 15) . Template: room group / 15
