Barrois

The Barrois is a French landscape in the Grand Est region , officially known as the Pays Barrois since 1995 . Essentially, the Barrois corresponds to the historic Duchy of Bar .

The total population of the Barrois is 69,800 people (1999).

The Pays Barrois is a plateau up to 451 m high through which the Saulx , Ornain and Chée rivers flow . It forms roughly the south-western quarter of the Meuse department . The historic capital of the countryside is Bar-le-Duc . Other larger towns in the Barrois are Ligny-en-Barrois , Revigny-sur-Ornain and Gondrecourt-le-Château .
