Barry Maister
Barry John Maister ONZM (born June 6, 1948 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand Olympic hockey champion who has been a member of the IOC since 2010 .
Life
Maister took part in three Olympic Games as a hockey player: in 1968 the New Zealand team finished seventh and in 1972 ninth. In 1976 the New Zealand team won, securing one of two gold medals for New Zealand at these games, the other won by John Walker in the 1,500-meter run . Maister was also nominated for the 1980 Olympic Games, but was not allowed to participate because of the Olympic boycott. Barry Maister made a total of 85 international appearances for New Zealand.
From 2000 to 2010, Barry Maister was Secretary General of the New Zealand Olympic Committee and coached New Zealand's athletes at five Olympic Games and three Commonwealth Games. At his suggestion, the Olympic Museum was opened in Wellington in 2008. In addition, Maister was and is also active in ONOC, the Association of Oceanic Olympic Committees. In 2010 Maister was elected to the IOC. There he was a member of the evaluation commission for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Maister has been an officer in the New Zealand Order of Merit since 2012 .
