Bartholomew McGhee (born April 30, 1899 in Edinburgh , Scotland , † January 26, 1979 in Philadelphia , USA ) was an American football player .
A native of Scotland, Mc Ghee was the son of the Scottish international and Hibernian captain James McGhee . At the club level, he played for numerous teams from 1917 to 1931, including the New York Nationals . He was a member of the United States national soccer team and took part in the first World Cup in 1930 . There the striker made three appearances in the group matches against Paraguay and Belgium and the semi-finals against Argentina. On July 13th, Bart McGhee scored the first American goal in World Cup history and the second goal in World Cup history. McGhee, whose brother Jimmy McGhee was also a noted soccer player, was inducted posthumously into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1986 .
