Wolfgang Eschker

Wolfgang Eschker (born June 26, 1941 in Stendal ) is a German Slavist , writer and translator .

Life

Wolfgang Eschker studied Slavic Studies and Folklore at the universities in Göttingen , Vienna , Belgrade and Sarajevo . In 1971 he obtained his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Göttingen with a thesis on a topic on Bosnian literature . He then worked in various functions for the Goethe Institute , including a. as a lecturer in Göttingen and as head of the Goethe Institutes in Nancy and Zagreb . After stays in Bad Harzburg and Göttingen, Eschker now lives in Bovenden in Lower Saxony .

Wolfgang Eschker is the author of short prose , aphorisms and poems . He also works as an editor and translates from Serbo-Croatian , Slovenian , Macedonian , Bulgarian and Russian into German .

Wolfgang Eschker is a member of the German PEN center and since 1989 of Matica srpska in Novi Sad . In addition to various scholarships , he received the Nicolaus Copernicus Prize of the city of Gelsenkirchen in 1973 and the order " Croatian Morning Star with the Face of Marko Marulić " in 2003 .
