Barthélémy Louis Joseph Lebrun (born October 22, 1809 in Landrecies , Département Nord , † October 6, 1889 in Paris ) was a French general .

Life

Lebrun became an officer after attending the Saint-Cyr Military School in 1829 and the General Staff School in 1832. He participated with honors in the campaigns in Africa and in the Crimean War. He worked in Kabylia in 1857 and in Italy in 1859 as Mac-Mahon's Chief of Staff , was appointed Brigadier General in 1859 and Chief of Staff of the Guard in 1860. In 1866 he was made Général de division and in 1869 he finally became adjutant to Emperor Napoleon III.

In June 1870 Lebrun was sent to Vienna to discuss a joint Franco-Austrian war plan against Prussia . During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he commanded the 12th Army Corps, took part in the Battle of Sedan and became a Prussian prisoner of war. From 1873 to 1879 he was in command of the 3rd Army Corps in Rouen and then took his leave.

Barthélémy Louis Joseph Lebrun died in Paris on October 6, 1889.
