Bartholomäus Eberl

Bartholomäus Eberl (born November 2, 1883 in Benediktbeuern , † February 12, 1960 in Groebenzell ) was a Roman Catholic priest, geographer, folklorist and home curator .

Life

After high school and theology studies in Dillingen an der Donau and in Munich , he was a chaplain in Schwabmünchen from 1908 . From 1911 to 1934 he was employed as a beneficiary in Obergünzburg . In Munich he studied geology and geography at the Technical University . In 1928 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the creation of the Iller-Lech plate . He researched regional and folklore, and was particularly interested in exploring and uncovering soil monuments, especially ancient Roman roads . In the Swabian Alpine foothills, he explored the glacial development.

Eberl also worked in the field of place name research, he set the natural and historical foundations here in a two-part work. From 1929 he was a voluntary, from 1934 a full-time district home administrator for the Swabian district. He then built up an extensive alliance in the field of homeland care and research.

As chairman of the Bavarian State Office for Folklore in Munich, influenced by Nazi culture , he initiated research in the areas of dialect , folk music , costume and folk architecture . From 1934 to 1944 he was editor of the Schwabenland magazine .

With the end of the National Socialist dictatorship in 1945, Bartholomäus Eberl, a former party member, lost his office as home administrator. In the following time he dealt with the research of the Bavarians and wrote a story about the Lechfeld Battle .
