Bartholomäus Tschudi

Bartholomäus Tschudi (born April 20, 1620 as Wilhelm Tschudi ; † July 31, 1702 ) was the librarian of the St. Gallen monastery from 1654 to 1661 .

Life

Father Bartholomäus was the son of Wilhelm Tschudi von Glarus and Barbara von Hennau. His father was the St. Gallic governor at Oberberg Castle . He made his profession on August 24, 1637 . In 1642 he became a subdeacon , in 1648 a deacon . He was ordained a priest on March 28, 1648, the primacy followed on April 19 of the same year. He suffered from epilepsy all his life , in old age he became blind and was deaf.

Act

Bartholomäus Tschudi apparently came from St. Johann to St. Gallen in 1650 . In 1651 he is attested as pastor of Hemberg and in 1651 was transferred to Wil because of his illness (epilepsy) . In 1654 he moved to St. Gallen Monastery, where he became a librarian. On July 24th, 1661 he was finally appointed Kornherrn (Granarius) . In December 1662 he was appointed subprior in St. Johann. There he became cellarer in 1664 . In 1669 he was again corn master in St. Gallen, from 1674 chef in Rorschach . In the following period he moved back and forth several times between Rorschach and St. Gallen due to illness. He died on July 31, 1702 at the age of 82 in St. Gallen.
