The Protestant Bartholomäuskirche in Bielefeld-Brackwede

The Bartholomäuskirche is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church in the Brackwede district of Bielefeld . It is named after the apostle Bartholomew .

history

The original church of St. Bartholomew in Brackwede was first mentioned in a document in 1216, when the Bishop of Paderborn confirmed the purchase and use of church goods. The exact date of the completion of the church is not known, but it is assumed that the tower in the west came from the 15th century, the east part of the church from 1660. The dimensions of this single-nave building were about 11.8 m in the Width and 19.2 m in length. The church has been used by Protestants since 1533.

Due to the population growth in the course of the 19th century, it was decided to build a new building in neo-Gothic style and in accordance with the Eisenach regulation , which began with the laying of the foundation stone on May 15, 1891 and was completed on April 3, 1892. The tower was not renewed. Modernizations were the installation of a steam heating system in 1913, which was modernized in 1962, and the conversion from gas to electric lighting in 1920.

On February 21, 1990, the entire church burned down to the outer walls. It was decided to build a new, historic building so that the church has retained its external appearance. The architect was Fritz K. Wachtmann. Only a few older pieces of equipment have survived in the church, including the baptismal font from 1685, two reliefs depicting the Annunciation and the Crucifixion, which were probably made in 1603, and the neo-Gothic altarpiece from 1892.

The church is listed and therefore entered in the list of monuments of the city of Bielefeld (No. 135). It is located in the main business center of the district and forms the backdrop for regular events such as the pig market or the Glückstalertage.

The church corresponds to the pattern of a hall church . The windows designed by Raphael Seitz and the organ built by Rowan West are particularly striking . The bells from 1924 are on display on the northwest side of the church. The “Brackwede Kirche” train and bus stop is located directly south of the church. There is also a Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew in Bielefeld-Senne .

The furnishings include a choir cross created by Peter Nagel. He also designed the altar candlesticks.

organ

The large organ was built in 1994 by the organ builder Rowan West (Ahrweiler). The instrument is designed as a Westphalian style organ in the tradition of the organ builder Johann Patroclus Möller and was built based on the organ in the Marienmünster Abbey Church . The organ has 44 stops on three manual works and a pedal.
