The Barysch ( Russian Бары́ш ) is a right tributary of the Sura in the Russian Ulyanovsk Oblast .
The Barysch rises on the Volga plateau . It flows in a predominantly northerly direction past the small towns of Barysch and Karsun and after 247 km joins the Sura, which also flows north, on the right. The Barysch drains an area of 5800 km². Important tributaries are Karsunka (left) and Bolschaja Jakla , Uren and Maina (right).
The Barysch is mainly fed by the snowmelt and precipitation . The river is ice-covered between November and April.
