The basilica was built between 1878 and 1881 as a neo-Gothic church based on a design by Evert Margry, a student of Pierre Cuypers . On the plan of a cruciform church , the building was brick in the form of a basilica with two low aisles and clerestory built. The tower with its large rose window and tent roof stands on the west side, the choir is closed with a five-sided apse . The ceilings are provided with ribbed vaults. On the crossing of the gable roof is a roof turret .

The interior has extensive, often floral decorations in painting and sculpture, executed by the Margry & Snickers studio, for example leaf capitals on the columns. The secrets of the rosary are also presented, as well as the life of Lidwina and Antonius. An altar shows scenes from the Old and New Testament, which can also be found in the lead glazing .
