St. Theresa ( Hungarian Kis Szent Teréz Bazilika ) is a Roman Catholic parish and monastery church of the Carmelites in the Hungarian city of Keszthely . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Veszprém and was raised in 1989 by Pope John Paul II to the rank of minor basilica .

The church, designed by Bruno Buchwieser senior from Vienna , was built between 1927 and 1930, and its style is based on the Italian Romanesque . In 1945 the Carmelites were expelled and the monastery was converted into a parish church . In 1950 the Carmelite order was banned in Hungary. It was not until 1989 that the Carmelites were able to return. The 38 meter high, free-standing bell tower was damaged in World War II and was not reconstructed until the political transition. This work was completed in 1999.

In contrast to the Romanesque exterior, the interior presents itself in simple neoclassicism . Since the church was equipped well into the 1930s, the church could not be consecrated until 1938 . The organ was only installed in 1937 by the Angster company from Pécs . On the high altar there is a statue of St. Therese von Lisieux in Carrara marble . The side altars are of Our Lady on Mount Carmel and St. Consecrated to Josef , Stephan and Theresa von Ávila . The sculptor Lajos Krsznai created six of the seven altars . Since he died before the work was finished, Károly Lorencz worked on the last altar.
