Basilio Mario Biucchi

Basilio Mario Biucchi , also Basilio Maria Biucchi (born May 9, 1908 in Castro , † December 14, 1983 in Mendrisio ) was a Swiss politician and university professor.

Life

family

Basiliio Mario Biucchi was the son of Giovanni Basilio Augusto Biucchi and his wife Ernesta (née Lunghi).

He was married to Noemi (born August 25, 1923 - July 31, 2003), daughter of August Weibel (1898–1955). They had a daughter together:

• Carmen Francesca Ernesta Arnold-Biucchi, married to Richard Bruce Arnold.

Career

He studied at the University of Milan and the University of Bern .

In 1933 he received his doctorate in economics and law and was assistant secretary at the Chamber of Commerce in Lugano from 1937 to 1938 . In 1939 he worked as a political editor at Corriere del Ticino and stayed there until 1946, when he became an independent tax advisor .

In 1949 he became professor for theoretical economics at the University of Freiburg and taught until 1977; During this time he was co-founder of the Office for Economic Research of the Canton of Ticino in 1960 .

Political activity

Even as a young academic , Basilio Mario Biucchi was inclined to corporatism and ran for the Lega nazionale ticinese as a councilor in 1937 . In 1941 he turned against the past orientation of the spiritual national defense . As a lecturer at the University of Freiburg and a publicist , he encouraged many Catholic university graduates to become more involved in politics and culture.
