Castro

Castro ( Lombard Castra [ˈkaʃtra] ) is a fraction of the municipality Acquarossa in the district of Blenio in the Swiss canton of Ticino . Until 2004 it formed an independent political municipality .

geography

Castro is located on a terrace on the right slope of the Blenio valley on the right bank of the Brenno , 14 km northwest of Biasca .

history

In 1200 the place is mentioned for the first time in the phrase concilium de Castri . At that time, as well as in 1253, there is also talk of a castle, which may be of Lombard origin and gave the place its name.

In the Middle Ages, the village, together with Marolta and Ponto Valentino, formed a single body called consiglio . Their goods were divided between the three political communities in 1895.

On April 4, 2004, Castro merged with Corzoneso , Dongio , Largario , Leontica , Lottigna , Marolta, Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco to form the newly formed municipality of Acquarossa.
