Leontica ( Lombard Lontia [ˈlontja, ˈlontia] ) is a village in the political municipality of Acquarossa, formed in 2004, in the Swiss canton of Ticino . Before that, it formed an independent community.
geography
The village of Leontica is located in the central Blenio Valley at an altitude of 876 m above sea level. The former municipality stretched from the Brenno river to the slopes of the Nara (2330 m above sea level) and, in addition to the village of Leontica, also included the hamlet of Comprovasco, which is a little above the valley floor.
history
The village was first mentioned in 1204 as Levontega . The common name of the Lepontier is in the name . At that time it formed its own neighborhood (vicinìa), which belonged to the fagìa Malvaglia or de subtus . A decision by the Federal Supreme Court in 1926 put an end to the dispute with Corzoneso over Allmenden.
On April 4, 2004, the previously independent municipalities of Castro , Corzoneso , Dongio , Largario , Lottigna , Marolta , Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco merged to form the newly formed municipality of Acquarossa .
Attractions
- Parish Church of San Giovanni Battista, mentioned for the first time in 1204, renovated 1778–1784 under the direction of Tommaso Colonetti; Church tower by Riccardo Gianella (1925). Inside a high altar (1780) by Carlo Andrea Galetti from San Fedele Intelvi and the three frescoes Battesimo di Cristo, Madonna Assunta and San Giovanni Evangelista by the painter Lorenzo Peretti from Buttogno . In the rosary chapel there is a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child (1523), in the second chapel from the left there is a wooden tabernacle from the 17th century.
- Former spa hotel Terme with thermal baths, built in 1887 by Giuseppe Martinoli.
- Shell stone on Monte Foppa (1562 m above sea level)

Sports
- Below the Pizzo Molare is the Piandios hut , where mountain hikers can spend the night.
- The Leontica-Nara ski area, which can be reached by chairlift, has 30 kilometers of slopes and also offers a toboggan run.
