The village lies on the right bank of the Brenno and at the foot of the Punta di Larescia (2272 m above sea level); 20 km north of Biasca .

history

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1207 as de Largario . The place name is derived from the Latin larix 'lark'.

In the Middle Ages, Largario and Campo belonged to the neighborhood (village cooperative) Olivone . The three places and later political communities form a common civic community to this day . The Church of San Pietro is first attested in 1283. Largario has formed its own parish since around 1300.

On April 4, 2004, Largario merged with Castro , Corzoneso , Dongio , Leontica , Lottigna , Marolta , Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco to form the newly formed municipality of Acquarossa.
