Prugiasco ( Lombard [pruˈsask pruˈɕaʃk] ) is a village in the political municipality of Acquarossa, formed in 2004, in the Swiss canton of Ticino . Before that, it formed an independent community.

geography

Aerial photo (1954)

The village is 614 m above sea level. M. in the middle Blenio valley , on the right bank of the Brenno river and at the southeast foot of the Pizzo Molare; 16 kilometers north of Biasca .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1209 as Puliçasco, then in 1409 as Pruxiascho . The name may contain a Latin or rather Celtic personal name, that of the former owner of the area.

In the Middle Ages, Prugiasco and Chiggiogna , located in the Leventina Valley, formed a common neighborhood (Dorgenossenschaft). When Leventina pledged to Uri from the Duke of Milan in 1440–1441 and was finally ceded in 1478, Prugiasco also came to Uri. In 1798 the newly formed canton of Bellinzona became part of the new canton of Ticino in 1803.

On April 4, 2004, Prugiasco merged with Castro , Corzoneso , Dongio , Largario , Leontica , Lottigna , Marolta and Ponto Valentino to form the new municipality of Acquarossa .
