location

Bastuträsk railway station

Bastuträsk belongs to the municipality of Norsjö . The place is a good 40 km west of Skellefteå and about 30 km southeast of the main town of the municipality, Norsjö . Bastuträsk is the second largest after Norsjö and one of the two crime scenes in the municipality.

The place is a junction on the railway line Stambanan genom övre Norrland leading from central Sweden to Boden (Nordlandbahn, route km 968 from Stockholm ). In Bastuträsk branches one after Skelleftea and further to Skelleftehamn and the steel works of Rönnskär at the Baltic Sea leading branch line from (Skelleftebanan) . There has been no passenger traffic on the branch line since 1990; the connection between Skellefteå and Bastuträsk is maintained by buses.

A secondary provincial road runs through the village from Skellefteå to Norsjö, which connects beyond Norsjö to the provincial road 370 (part of Guldvägen ) in the direction of Malå, which runs north over Boliden . This connection via Bastuträsk, also known as Gamla Malåvägen (Old Malåstrasse) , has existed since the 19th century, initially bearing the number 370 as the provincial main road (Länshuvudväg) from 1951 , and then from 1964 as provincial road ( Länsväg ) 369 before becoming a secondary provincial road in 1986 was downgraded because it had lost its importance for through traffic on Provincial Road 370, which was more generous and straightforward in connection with the mining activities around Boliden and Kristineberg in the middle of the 20th century. A secondary provincial road, coming from the south from Hällnäs bei Vindeln , joins Bastuträsk, following the Nordland Railway .

history

The place was built around a train station in connection with the construction of the Nordland Railway in 1894. Before that, there had been no coherent development in the area. It was named after the lake Bastuträsket not far to the northwest. In 1910, Bastuträsk became the starting point for the branch line to Skellefteå, which was completed by 1912, and then to Skelleftehamn in 1914, which made the station and location more important.

Since the middle of the 20th century, when almost 1,000 people lived in Bastuträsk, the town's population has decreased to less than half. Today there are a number of small businesses there, including food production and forestry.
