Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca

Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca , also Don Battista , (born January 22, 1956 in Offlaga , Province of Brescia ) is an Italian diplomat from the Holy See .

Ricca works in the diplomatic service of the State Secretariat of the Vatican. He is also director of the houses Domus Sanctae Marthae , Domus Internationalis Paulus VI and Domus Romana Sacerdotalis as well as the Casa San Benedetto .

Pope Francis appointed him on June 15, 2013 with immediate effect and ad interim as prelate for the Istituto per le Opere di Religione (IOR) . As secretary of the Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone's Commission, Ricca is the liaison with the IOR's board of directors. He succeeds Piero Pioppo , who was a prelate for the IOR from 2006 to 2011.

On July 19, 2013, the weekly newspaper L'Espresso published a cover with the headline La Lobby Gay, a report by the journalist Sandro Magister in which Battista Ricca was alleged to have had several same-sex affairs. The US blogger Rocco Palmo commented on this with the words: The natives' "Save the Bank" campaign just got uglier. ( The locals' "Save the Bank" campaign just got uglier ).
