Battles is an American concept / progressive / math rock band from Brooklyn , New York City , formed in 2003.
history
The band consists of the musicians Ian Williams (ex- Don Caballero ) and John Stanier (ex- Helmet (band) / Tomahawk ). After the first releases on Dim Mak , they signed a contract with Warp Records for their C / B EP . In 2007 her debut album Mirrored was released . In 2011 her second album was released, called Gloss Drop . The singer Tyondai Braxton dropped out shortly before, which is why the album is mostly instrumental. Matias Aguayo , Gary Numan , Kazu Makino, and Yamantaka Eye were only used as guest singers on four songs .
Live they opened for The Mars Volta, among others . In 2008 they played at the Moers Festival, among others .
style
Her music moves between rock, pop, experimental, electronic and improvisation. Instead of simply giving up the initial renunciation of vocals, the four rely on distorted, electronically alienated vocal lines. However, these do not stand out as such from the overall musical impression, but fit in as a supplement.
