He can command his own units as well as take over enemy ships. The missions consist of a. from basic construction and defense as well as attack and rescue operations. The varied planetary surfaces as well as a multitude of different ships, weapon configurations and mission objectives contribute an important part to the fun of the game.
reception
Despite good reviews in the trade press, which praised the high graphics quality, the variety of the game and the multitude of innovations, the game, like its predecessor Battlezone, was denied the predicted success.
Development history
The predecessor Battlezone was released by Activision in early 1998 . The American development studio Pandemic Studios then developed Battlezone II as a successor in 1999 , which was again published by Activision.
Battlezone II was developed in such a way that it enables the integration of extensions created by the user community , so-called mods . Carey Chico, Art Director of Battlezone II stated the reason for this, “Well, the goal of all our effort was to provide for a strong mod community to keep the game going. Seems like it's working. " However, all of these extensions are "unofficial"; In other words, they are not distributed by the manufacturer Pandemic Studios, but are offered for free download on various community sites. Forgotten Enemies and Fleshstorm are among the most famous and at the same time most extensive expansions , both contain a continuation of the original story and contain a multitude of innovations, such as: B. new planetary surfaces and other extraterrestrial races.
Support
After the end of the official support, two Pandemic employees took over the support in their free time and are still producing unofficial patches today .
