The Bayern-Takt describes a system of train connections in local traffic in Bavaria and parts of Baden-Württemberg , with almost all routes being served every hour. The trains meet at stations known as connecting hubs so that there are transfer options.

The Bavarian clock applies in four regions of southern Germany: Swabia , Franconia , Upper Bavaria and Eastern Bavaria .

history

At the end of 1991, the planning of an integral cycle timetable for southern Germany (Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and part of Bavaria) was in progress.

In 1993 the Allgäu-Schwaben-Takt started as a test project and proved to be successful.

The Rhineland-Palatinate cycle and 3-lion cycle in Baden-Württemberg, which started shortly afterwards, also showed success.

The Bayern clock was introduced in mid-1996.

With the introduction of the Bayern-Takt, the number of trains was increased, travel times shortened and connections improved. Since then, trains have been running at least every two hours on almost all routes until late in the evening.

Between 1996 and 2006, the number of passengers traveling by rail in Bavaria rose by 25 percent. The train kilometers ordered by the Free State of Bavaria rose from 96 million (1998/1999) to 103 million (2005) to 116.6 million (2012) per year. The number of travelers increased from 934.5 million (2000) to 983.1 million (2005).
