Bayville (Maine)

Bayville is a village in the town of Boothbay Harbor in Lincoln County in the state of Maine in the United States .

Bayville is located east of the town of Boothbay Harbor on Linkin Bay in the Atlantic Ocean . This area has been settled by European immigrants since the 1730s. Initially known as Townsend, the name was changed with the organization as Town in Boothbay. After a dispute over the establishment of a water system, the area of ​​the port split off as Boothbay Harbor in 1889 and was organized as an independent town. Bayville, initially known as Hardscrabble, is part of Boothbay Harbor as an eastern settlement, although efforts have been made to switch to Boothbay. The name was changed to Bayville in 1880 and Bayville has had its own post office since 1894. After Bayville was initially inhabited by fishermen, Thomas Boyd bought all of the houses except for one house in the 1880s and turned the town into a holiday area. He later sold this on.
