Beat Friedrich von Tscharner

Beat Friedrich von Tscharner (born July 1, 1791 in Bern ; † January 15, 1854 there ) was a Swiss physicist and politician .
Life
Beat Friedrich von Tscharner was born to Beat Emanuel Tscharner (1743–1805) and Elisabeth Johanna Lerber. He spent his earliest childhood at Signau Castle , where his father was the governor. In 1799 the family moved into the Hunziken Campagne in Rubigen . Tscharner did his military service with the infantry, which he left as captain in 1815. In 1813 he married Katharina Elisabeth Stettler . In 1819 Tscharner accidentally killed the country hunter Andreas Schneeberger. Tscharner was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison. The sentence was reduced in the second instance to ten years expulsion from the country. He then left Bern and first went to Karlsruhe , where he financed himself with lectures on experimental physics. In 1824 he received his doctorate in Giessen . A few months later, Grand Duke Ludwig von Baden appointed him professor. In the winter semester he gave lectures in Hamburg . There he met Amalie Sieveking . From 1824 to 1835 he taught in Nuremberg , where he met Kaspar Hauser .
In 1830 he returned to Bern, where, after the overthrow of the patrician government in 1831 , he took a seat on the Grand Council as a representative of the Erlach district . From 1836 to 1841 he was a professor in Bern. In old age he became increasingly involved in prison chaplaincy .
Tscharner wrote a manual on experimental physics.
