Beata Poźniak

Beata Poźniak Daniels (born April 30, 1960 in Gdansk ) is a Polish - American actress , film director , painter , model and activist . She also performs under the name Beata Poźniak .

Life

Poźniak was born to Krystyna Poźniak, a dentist, and Roger Taylor Zbigniew, an orthopedic surgeon. She spent her childhood in England , where she also went to school. At the State University of Film, Television and Theater Łódź , she graduated with honors at the age of 22. In Poland she had her first film role in 1979 as an extra in the film The Tin Drum . In 1988 she went to the United States and became a citizen in 1991.

Poźniak came to the United States for the AFI film festival with Andrzej Wajda's film Chronicle of Love Accidents . She was discovered by the US audience in 1991 when she played the role of Marina Oswald in Oliver Stone's film JFK - Tatort Dallas . This role was her film debut in the USA and has led to appearances in over 30 film and TV projects. Then she played Susanna Luchenko in Babylon 5 , a revolutionary in George Lucas The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones and the scientist Ludmilla in Dark Skies . In Paramounts' JAG - On behalf of the honor she played an Israelite spy and double agent. When Dr. Katja Fielding in Melrose Place she was given a role as the mother and wife of a homosexual. Her other series roles include Masha in Crazy About You , Raisa on the Drew Carey Show and the Japanese nanny Tambor in Oliver Stone's mini-series Wild Palms . She then starred in the CBS film A Mother's Gift and in the drama Miriam . In the video game and interactive film, Psychic Detective , she got the role of Laina Pozok.

In 1989 she founded the Discordia theater. She developed plays that were part of the LA Theater Festival and LA Poetry Festival, was a screenwriter and directed Poeticus Umbilicus , Poetry Discordia , Return of Umbilicus , We & They and Changing Flags . There was also a collaboration with Peter Sellars . In 1991 Poźniak became a US citizen.

She has been married to the American architect Jeffrey Daniels since August 2001 and lives with him and their child in Beverly Hills , California , in a house that once belonged to Errol Flynn .

As a sculptor and painter, Beata Poźniak tried her hand at experimental and independent film productions, some of which she also directed herself. She used several of her works of art in her short film and directorial debut "Mnemosyne". In her series of fantastic masks made of feathers and other found objects, Poźniak combines ancient, mythological and theatrical work with the surrealism of Man Ray. Her more recent paintings and sculptures explore the collision of ancient myths with the modern world.

activism

In the late 1980s, shortly after arriving in America, Poźniak began a campaign to get the US government to recognize International Women's Day. On March 8, 1994, the first law in the history of the US Congress for the national recognition of this day as International Women's Day (HJ Res. 316) appeared.

In addition, Poźniak founded the 'Women's Day USA' as a non-profit educational organization that aims to raise public awareness of the inspiring achievements of women in the world.
