Beau Dommage is from the Canadian Quebec native folk-rock band that existed from 1974 to 1978, in 1984, 1994-95 reunited and still exists today.

Band history

First phase (1970–1978)

Michel Rivard and Pierre Huet met in 1970 at the University of Québec and founded the Duo Quenonuille Bleue. When keyboardist Robert Leger was added, the name was changed to Theater Sainfoin. In 1973 Marie-Michele Desrosiers and Real Desrosiers joined the band. Beau Dommage was found as the new band name. The French phrase, which is literally translated as “beautiful damage”, means “quite sure” or “why not?” In the Québec dialect.

In 1974 they caught the attention of Capitol Records , who signed the group. Her self-titled debut album was released in 1974. It went platinum in Canada in 1975 and later triple platinum .

A year later, Où est passée la noce? , which was also awarded a platinum record. Then Leger left the band, but continued to work as a songwriter. Michael Hinton came for him. Together with him, the 1976 work Un Autre Jour Arrive en Ville was published , followed by Passagers in 1977.

Tensions in the band led Michel Revard to release his first solo album Méfiez-vous du grand amour in 1977 . The band was about to break up. Capitol records published the compilation Les Grands Success 1978, which contained their last song together with Giselle en Automne . Then the band broke up.

Joint appearances (1978–1995)

During the dissolution, the individual members pursued their solo careers.

On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the discovery of Quebec by Jacques Cartier , the band got together again for a show. Due to the good harmony, they postponed two appearances at the Montreal Forum in October. This resulted in the double live album Au Forum de Montreal . In 1988 EMI published the compilation Plus de 60 Minutes Avec Beau Dommage . A few more samplers followed, but the band remained inactive again.

Reunion 1992

In 19925 the band came together again in the original line-up and released two more works with Beau Dommage (1994) and the triple album Rideau (1995). But the reunion was short-lived and all members returned to their other projects.

Reunion 2005

The group has been active again since 2005 and plays various live concerts.

In 2013, the Canadian Post Office dedicated a stamp to famous Canadian groups. In addition to Rush , The Guess Who and The Tragically Hip , Beau Dommage also received this honor.
