Beauty and the Beast (OT: Beauty and the Beast ) is an Australian fantasy film directed by David Lister from 2009.

action

When the king dies, the country is in turmoil as there is no known heir to the throne. Count Rudolf in particular wants to seize power and allies himself with the witch Lady Helen. Together they forge a perfidious plan. Count Rudolf is supposed to hunt down the "beast" that allegedly makes the country unsafe. However, since the beast is peaceful, Lady Helen incites a troll on the villagers and makes it appear as if the beast is the culprit. Belle receives the order from the village policeman Otto to look for the beast and to prove his innocence.

Belle can gain the beast's trust, but when the troll kills her mother and the beast is caught near the corpse, she too loses her trust for a short time. Belle learns from Otto, however, that the beast is the actual heir to the throne who was enchanted by Lady Helen. Although Otto and Helen try to cancel the trial, the guilty verdict is finally announced. Belle saves the beast at the last second. Together they set out to hunt down the witch. This succeeds, but Rudolph has meanwhile brought the troll under his control and wants to be crowned king.

In the showdown between Belle and the beast on the one hand, the troll and Rudolf on the other, the two heroes manage to turn the count and the troll to stone with enchanted weapons. The beast eventually transforms into a human being and is made king under his maiden name Maximilian.

background

The film was shot in Gold Coast , Queensland , Australia for the US television station Syfy . The film is one of a series of reinterpretations of older fairy tales that Syfy commissioned from 2010 to 2012.

The film was first broadcast on German-speaking television on June 5, 2010 on the pay-TV broadcaster SciFi Channel (today: Syfy) and was subsequently released on both Blu-ray and DVD.

Reviews

The B-film received mostly bad reviews. Above all, it was criticized that the film has little to do with the actual story of Beauty and the Beast , that the special effects as well as the splatter effects that can be seen from time to time are cheap and the story is kept quite confused.

“This version of Beauty and the Beast is still fairly visible for trash fans. Although they soon get impatient because of the boring implementation of the story, at least one can amuse oneself from the bad effects and wonder why actors are paid for such performances at all. "
