Bedford ™
The Bedford TM was a heavy truck manufactured by Bedford from 1974 to 1986. Until the introduction of the TM, Bedford had only built light trucks for short journeys like the TK and the KM . When it was seen that heavy long-haul trucks with luxury cabs like the Volvo F88 , Scania 110 and Leyland Marathon were gaining market share, Bedford decided to bring the TM out as a competitor.
drive
Throughout its production time, there was the TM with two-stroke V6 and V8 diesel engines from Detroit Diesel , the Bedford 500 turbo engine or the Cummins L10. The engine power was transmitted to the Soma rear axle via a manual transmission from Fuller Manufacturing or Dana-Spicer . Detroit Diesel's engines weren't a particularly lucky choice for the UK. Because of their high revs, they were unpopular with drivers who were used to low-rev, long-stroke four-stroke diesels from the UK. The operators did not want these engines either because of their high diesel consumption.
variants
The cars were available as normal trucks or tractors , with a normal or extended driver's cab, with or without a sleeping cabin. The wagons were very successful and have been seen at many major logistics companies in the UK. Especially for a Bedford, they showed a new standard in comfort and equipment.
Production stop
In 1986, when Bedford collapsed, production of the TM ceased. The British armed forces still use a number of TMs with all-wheel drive .
