Bedford WTB

The Bedford WTB and the Bedford WTL were chassis for buses from the British commercial vehicle manufacturer Bedford .

After the success of the Bedford WLB , Vauxhall wanted to expand its market position and presented the WTB series in 1934. The vehicles were built on the slightly larger 3-tonne chassis of the Bedford WTL truck . A short version was no longer built. Compared to its predecessor, the position of the driver has been moved forward, which creates additional space for passengers. The bus was now designed for bodies with 26 seats. The engine came back from Bedford. The same six-cylinder gasoline engine with 3.177 l displacement was used as in the Bedford WLB. The engine developed 64 hp at 2800 rpm . The displacement was increased to 3.519 l in 1938, the classification changed to 28 tax horsepower. The power transmission with an unsynchronized four-speed gearbox and the rear axle with a bevel differential gear as well as the mechanical, linkage-operated brake system with the support of a vacuum servo remain unchanged.

Early examples were built on the chassis of the WTL truck. The body came from Duple . Other body manufacturers were Plaxton, Thurgood, Burlingham and Wilmot. The radiator grille was initially similar to that of the WHB / WLB, from 1938 the rounded Bullennansen radiator grille was used, which later became typical of the Bedford OB . The Bedford WTB is therefore easy to confuse with the Bedford OB.

A total of 2320 buses were produced.
