The name Bedford C describes a bus chassis made by the British manufacturer Bedford Vehicles . It was first presented in 1957. The Bedford C was developed because Bedford could not offer chassis for buses with a capacity of 29 or 30 seats after production of the Bedford OB until 1961, when the Bedford VAS was put into production.

The chassis of the Bedford C , like the chassis of the Bedford SB, was derived from the S-series truck chassis . With a total weight of 4 or 5 tons, however, the buses were significantly smaller than the SB . The chassis was intended for the construction of front-link bodies. While the C4 was only offered at 7 feet and 6 inches wide , the C5 came in both 7 feet 6 inches and 8 feet wide. The size limit of 7 feet 6 inches in width for buses in Great Britain was lifted in 1950 (until then, wider buses required special permits restricted to certain streets), but some bus operators still preferred the narrower version.

The Bedford C in the Z1 version was powered by a six-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 3.6 l . The Z2 version got a six-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 4.9 l. Both engines were manufactured by Bedford itself. Another option was the Z3 version with a 4.9 liter gasoline engine. All buses had a synchronized four-speed transmission. The superstructures mostly came from Duple , who adapted the superstructure originally developed for the Bedford OB to the new chassis. The design, now called Super Vista , was based heavily on the Super Vega that Duple offered for the larger Bedford SB .
