Bedford RL
The Bedford RL was the main medium-sized truck in the British Forces from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s and was manufactured by Bedford . Originally it was cautiously classified as a 3-ton truck, but later the RL trucks were classified in the 4-ton class without any technical changes. These weights refer to the payload in off-road operation. The last truck of this type left the production lines in early 1970; a total of 74,000 pieces were produced. The series was replaced by the Bedford MK
variants
There were many special structures, such as B. Towing vehicles , workshop vehicles, radio trucks and cable layers. The Green Goddess fire engine was also based on the RL.
The RL and its variants were in use together with the younger MK and TM models well into the 1990s.
The Home Office also procured a number of these vehicles and put them in reserve for nationwide disasters. In the meantime, all of them have been retired regardless of the low mileage.
Engines
The RL was powered by a 4.9-liter gasoline engine that delivered 110 bhp (81 kW). Some examples had a diesel engine instead.
conservation
Skirmish in Bulls Wood owned two copies until the late 1990s to transport players to and from the parking lot. One of them was used to show how an RL could jump off a ramp at high speed. I.a. '' Mike 'Force 10' Philips '' was a well-known jumper on Skirmishs RL.
