Beeper (Alternate Title: Deadly Message ) is an American action thriller directed by Jack Sholder from 2002 that deals with the subject of child abduction.

action

The widowed doctor Richard Avery uses a professional stay in India to spend the Christmas holidays there with his 8-year-old son Sam. Unfortunately, this trip is overshadowed by a child abduction. Because while Richard is giving a scientific lecture at a medical congress, Sam disappears from the classroom. The kidnapper leaves a ransom note under Sam's chair without asking for a ransom. The only requirement is not to use the police. However, Police Inspector Kumar is routinely entrusted with the investigation. Julia Hyde, an employee of an American anti-terrorist unit, is placed at his side and, together with Kumar, tries to convince the hostage's father of the advantages of police investigations. In vain - the safety of his son was a priority for Dr. Avery absolute priority. Now that all security forces have withdrawn, the kidnapper climbs through the window into Avery's hotel room the following night and hands him a beeper that is supposed to lead Avery to his son in the next few days. Avery promises to follow instructions.

The next morning the pipit leads him to an Indian market. There he always finds new instructions, similar to a scavenger hunt, which ultimately do not lead him to his son. In a turmoil in which he is innocent, he loses the beeper, but after a short search he gets it back from a beggar. Back at the hotel, he is instructed to go to the train station. The wagon number and seat number are indicated. On the train, a messenger hands him a travel bag and mentions the name Zolo. On the way back by taxi, he checks the contents of the bag and finds 3 kg of opium in it. On this occasion he also takes a closer look at the beeper and is horrified to discover that it is not the beeper that the kidnapper gave him. Sam's name was engraved on the back of the original beeper.

Meanwhile, Julia Hyde learns at the police station that Avery is being monitored contrary to the agreement and complains loudly to the police leadership about it. Then she visits Avery at the hotel and offers him her support again. The beeper sounds again during their conversation. This time Avery is summoned to a notorious nightclub. There he speaks with the club owner Zolo, the man for whom the drug worth $ 500,000 was intended. Avery is ready to hand the opium over to Zolo if Zolo can get him the original beeper in return. Zolo accepts the deal - the goods are too valuable for him. A few hours later, Zolo presented the beeper. Now the opium delivery can take place. Zolo and Avery drive together to the hotel, where the opium has since been stolen by an unknown person. In addition, it turns out that the last beeper found also has no engraving on the back. Zolo decides to get to the bottom of the matter. He and Avery are waiting for the kidnapper in his hotel room. When the kidnapper notices the ambush upon his arrival, he escapes over the facade. A wild chase through the city begins, which ends fatally for the masked perpetrator. Avery can take the beeper from the dead man.

Suddenly and unexpectedly the beeper gives a signal. When Richard Avery calls / dials the displayed cell phone number, he recognizes Julia's voice on the other end of the line. Thus Julia turns out to be an accomplice of the kidnapper who has already been killed. After meeting Julia, Avery and Zolo follow their car. Julia's goal is a multi-storey building / warehouse in which she keeps Sam and the bag with the opium hidden. When she notices her pursuers - Kumar arrives with his colleague - Julia threatens to push Sam from the balcony unless she is allowed safe passage. When Julia wants to carry out her threat and lifts Sam over the railing, Richard can grab his son by the arm at the last moment and keep him from falling into the depths. But Julia herself is torn down in the subsequent wrestling match with Zolo.
