reception

Riema Al-Khatib, author at Serienjunkies.de , wrote in the review of the pilot episode that although “A TV presenter looking for Mr. Right […] doesn't exactly [sound] exceptionally exciting”, the pilot film was a “decent premiere” . The "great attraction" of the series is "clearly Gabrielle Union ". She is "sympathetic in her role from the very first moment and despite her presence in every scene of the long episode never gets boring. From her slightly pimped facial expression while chatting to the mumbled self-talk to the tearful moments, it remains a pleasure to watch her. "One could assume that the series" has a certain soapiness [...] given some storylines ", but" thanks to the performance, these plots would. " the main actress and the balanced mix of drama and comedy not too dull. ”Furthermore, she writes in conclusion that BET“ With Being Mary Jane [have] created one thing above all else: an incredibly likeable protagonist, who one would like to see more of. Gabrielle Union plays a quick-witted, very human woman, with whom one can empathize better after an episode than with some long-known characters in other series. It's just a shame about the supporting characters, who are neglected and don't really make it into the hearts of the audience. "

The series received a Metascore of 78/100 on Metacritic based on 4 reviews.
