Confessing evangelical community

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quasi-free-church, evangelical bodies within the EKD refer to themselves as confessing Protestant communities . They differentiate themselves from the EKD for various theological and ideological reasons. The choice of name "Confessing" refers to the Confessing Church , which broke with the political guidelines in the Third Reich. Unlike in the Confessing Church, however, the Confessing Protestant communities and their representatives themselves show conservative ideas. The initiators complained about a politically “too left” and z. B. LGBT-friendly development of the evangelical church. Criticism of women's ordination , ecumenism and Islam are also founding motivations.

history

The first congregation was founded in Neuwied in 1993 under the name "Evangelischer Aufbruch Mittelrhein" (EAM), later called "Evangelischer Aufbruch in Deutschland" (EAD). From there the first travel pastor was called to recruit new members. In 1998 and 1999, so-called emergency synods (co-initiated by Walter Rominger, among others ) gave further impulses for the establishment of new communities. The Evangelical Awakening Middle Rhine and the Evangelical Emergency Community in Germany (ENID) held events together. EAD chairman Heinz-Jürgen Fischbach was also chairman of the Christian-Conservative Germany Forum . The EEAS supported political impulses to ban abortion and opposed church policy decisions for homosexual couples in church service as well as the civil partnership law .

The "Kamen Initiative" was founded in 2000; Their representative Manfred Gössling was later a board member of the Evangelical Emergency Community in Germany. Another congregation was established in Wuppertal in 2000 , and the Council of Confessing Protestant congregations was founded . This includes the communities in Osnabrück, Hanover, Bad Salzuflen, Aachen, Wuppertal, Gießen and Neuwied as well as other start-up initiatives. The community association publishes the quarterly publication “Confessing Church”. It is published by the Association for Reformation Journalism.

Cooperation and supporters

The Council of Confessing Protestant Congregations is also closely linked to the Community Aid Association of Johann Cochlovius , which also publishes position papers and calls from the Confessing Protestant communities.

There are now other confessing evangelical communities in Cottbus , Göttingen and Duisburg .

Structurally, there are similarities and overlaps with the more firmly organized free churches and with the less organized house groups .
