Bela Mesaros
Bela Mesaros , ( Hungarian : Béla Mészáros , born April 6, 1952 ) is a Serbian table tennis player and chess player of Hungarian descent. In the early 1980s he was "the best European defender for years". At times he was among the forty best players in the world.
Life
Mesaros was a defender. As a Yugoslav national player, he completed about 100 missions for the Yugoslav national team. In 1982 he won bronze with the Yugoslav team in the European Championship , with his club Spartak Subotica he won the European Cup in 1977 and 1981 . Then he was the coach of the Serbian national team in table tennis. He completed other international assignments at the European Championships in 1974 , 1982 , 1984 and 1986 as well as at the World Championships in 1973 , 1981 , 1983 and 1985 .
Mesaros has been playing for various clubs in Germany for 30 years: in 1982 he moved from Spartak Subotica to the Bundesliga at TTC Altena . Further stations were Spvg Steinhagen (1983/84), TTC Heusenstamm (1984–1986), SSV Reutlingen 05 (1986/87), and FTG Frankfurt (from 1987). For twelve years he played table tennis for FC Bayern Munich (1994–2007), then he went to a club in Fürstenfeldbruck . Currently (2012) he plays for SC Gröbenzell.
Mesaros lives in Subotica , where he works as a trainer.

Mesaros (Mészáros) is also FIDE champion in chess. At the World Chess Federation FIDE he is listed under the name Bela Meszaros. His highest rating was 2355 in 1990, currently (as of July 2016) he has an Elo rating of 2232. Mesaros (Mészáros) won the Subotica open championship in February 2004 and the same tournament again in February 2008.
