The Belfast River is a river on the west coast of Dominica in the Parish Saint Paul . Due to geothermal activity underground, the river heats up in places to almost boiling point .

geography

The Belfast River rises on the western slope of the Morne Trois Pitons from the same aquifer as a spring stream of the Boeri River . Its catchment area, however, spreads out widely, mainly between the foothills of Morne Boyer (S) and Mount Joy / Deux Jardins . It borders on the catchment areas of the Massacre River , Mahaut River and Ravine S'abricots in the south. The source streams from the height of the Morne Trois Pitons ( ), or from the plateau at Middleham Estate ( ) initially run to the west, then turn almost at right angles to the north and unite again at Corona Estate after about 2½ km to the west to turn. The river passes Deux Saisons in the north and turns at Belmont , where it receives inflow from several small tributaries from the left and south, again to the north, but receives inflow from another source river from the right and east at Bon Repos and turns again from there to the southwest. At Charrurier it receives numerous tributaries from Mount Joy from the right and north, but also from Bon Repos in the south and also forms a dividing course in the lowlands on the coast before it forms a small river delta between Mahaut and Jimmit and there into the Caribbean Sea flows out.

The catchment area of the Layou River connects to the north .

A tributary forms the small Salton Waterfalls ( ).
