Belle Bennett
Belle Bennett (born April 22, 1891 in Milaca , Minnesota , † November 4, 1932 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American theater and film actress of the silent film era.
Life
Belle Bennett's father was a circus owner and so she performed in the circus ring as a child. She received her education in a convent school in Minneapolis . Then she returned to her father's circus, who then trained her to be a trapeze artist . Soon, however, she went to the theater and got to Broadway . From 1913 she also took on roles in smaller films. Film producer Samuel Goldwyn selected her in 1925 for the title role in Stella Dallas . Her 16-year-old son William Howard Macy, whom she always passed off as her brother, because she did not want her real age to be revealed, died during the filming. The theater actress made the transition to sound film with ease, but this career was short-lived as she developed cancer and died in November 1932 at the age of 41.
