Bellingen (Maingau)
Bellingen is a desert in the Maingau .
The place is mentioned between 765 and 815, several times in deeds of donation to the Lorsch monastery . A deed of donation dated April 22, 791 comes from a Franconian nobleman named Erlulf , he bequeathed all of his possessions, including in Bellingen, the Lorsch monastery. Due to the place name, Bellingen is probably a place founded by the Alamanni (before 496), who settled in the Maingau during the migration period . See also the article about places ending with -ingen .
During the Franconian rule in Maingau, the old Alemannic places were still inhabited in connection with a Franconian settlement. At that time Bellingen was on a road from Bürgel via Bieber , Bellingen and Niederroden to Altdorf .
Bellingen was probably the Oberhof of the Bellinger Mark of the same name . This brand cooperative extended over a very large area. That can be concluded from the extent of the donations .
The mark was mentioned for the last time in 868. The Bellinger Mark later became the Auheimer Mark , the Biebermark and the Steinheimer Mark . The Bellinger Mark thus covered an area that corresponded to the later bailiwick of Steinheim .
The exact location of the place is still unknown. In Neu-Isenburg and Dietzenbach there are field names such as Belling , Auf die Bellingwiesen or Im Bellung . The place could have existed in the area of later foundations in the region, probably in the Obertshausen , Hausen or Heusenstamm area . Vessels from the 4th century were found there in 1887, although the places represent later foundations.
