Bellum, sacrum bellum !? (according to 'War, holy war !?') is the third album by the German martial-industrial band Von Thronstahl , which was released in 2003. The album, which was released both as a digipak limited to 2003 copies and as a normal CD, was first self-distributed and later distributed by VAWS and Fasci-Nation.

style

The music on the album is very varied, but not all songs use vocals. Some consist only of musically accompanied speech samples , the number of which seems unmanageable. Compared to the band's earlier albums, the songs seem more aggressive and direct, which can also be seen in the Praetorianer intro , which is partly based on marching music . Klumbs musical beginnings in punk reflected in a Joy Division - cover , the minimalist battle for the sun , which mainly with fast-paced, pitch-changed samples from the song Sato Sato the group DAF (from the album Everything is good ) works, and the acquisition some lines of text by the band OHL .

However, the Joy Division cover version changed the title They Walked in Line or Walked in Line to We Walked in Line and the text was modified accordingly, which also brought negative criticism from Klumb:

"I'm sorry, but anyone who messes up" Walked in Line "by JOY DIVISION and turns it into a soldier swindler is either unable to speak English or is cheeky. I surrender to so much audacity. Can you really be that stupid? To clarify what I mean: does anyone know a black man who would act out "Johnny join the Clan"? "

- Dominik table leather :

The song was covered again for the successor CD Sacrificare and this time is entitled Dressed in Black Uniforms .

content

In terms of content, the album revolves around the political wars in the USA , in Ius ad bellum et Ius in bello, for example, an excerpt from a news program can be heard at the beginning of the song, according to which the alleged weapons of mass destruction were the main reason for the war in Iraq in 2003. The name of the title refers to the statement of the philosopher Reinhard Brandt , that under Bush the “right to war, the jus ad bellum”, was supplemented with “a right in war that was jus in bello”, which in turn was a recourse to the Prussian constitutional lawyer Carl Schmitt . Adoration to Europe [sic] represents a commitment of the band to Europe and the common Western culture is in this song is a re-recorded version of the song. Empire externum that already on the first album the group Imperium internum to was found. However, this new version has (English) vocals, as well as recorded speech samples . The song begins with the speech excerpt “Looking to the future, my people first. Like a king, like the emperor! Across all obstacles. Forward! Forward! Forward! " In addition, the song offers a passage from the song A Day in Europe by the Scottish band The Skids ( " Hail to the Mighty, the Ritual begins; Hail to Apollo , the Cleanser of Sins; Hail to the Mighty, the Ritual begins ; Hail to Europa , she always wins. " ).

Guilt kills deals with coming to terms with the past ( "Coming to terms with the past is not possible without relativization." ), The text passage used there: "After the war our home will burn, after the war we will be called murderers. After the war we bring the dead home, after the war we will be losers ” comes from the song After the War by the punk band OHL .

Presentation

The cover depicts a collage of various historical personalities as well as the band members. This image is dominated by an angel standing in the middle of the picture, blowing a trumpet and holding a laurel wreath in his hand, flanked by two tigers. The booklet contains further political collages, paired with a few quotes and text excerpts, for example by Curzio Malaparte , Claudius Claudianus and Julius Evola .

The sun wheel with the knight used in earlier works can only be found in a collage on one page in the booklet, decorated with an iron cross , but is no longer of central importance.
