Reinhard Brandt

Reinhard Brandt (born April 10, 1937 in Klein Gladebrügge near Bad Segeberg ) is a German philosopher . He is a professor emeritus at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

Brandt studied Greek , Latin and philosophy at the Universities of Marburg , Munich and Paris. In 1965 he received his doctorate on the Aristotelian doctrine of judgment. The habilitation followed with an unpublished work on David Hume's theoretical philosophy.

From 1972 Brandt worked as a C2 professor for the history of philosophy in Marburg. In 2003 he retired. He also briefly taught as a visiting professor at various other universities, including Universidad Simón Bolívar ( Caracas ), Indiana University ( Bloomington ), Bielefeld , Padua , Venice , Halle , Canberra , Munich and Rome (Roma III).

His research focus is the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and how it is embedded in the historical context.

In Marburg and in the region he is also known for contributions to popular science and (philosophical) comments on current events and university politics.

He is a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen .
