Belvedere is a city in Marin County in the US state of California with 2,068 inhabitants (as of 2010). The metropolitan area spans two islands in San Francisco Bay , accessible via a causeway from the nearby town of Tiburon . With a median household income of $ 183,131 in 2015, Belvedere is one of the highest income cities in the United States . Numerous houses in the city have spectacular views of Angel Island , San Francisco , Sausalito , Mount Tamalpais and the Golden Gate Bridge . The median value of a house or condo in Belvedere is over a million dollars, more than half a million more than the median value in California. A number of these houses were built in the style of Victorian architecture ; some of them are on the National Register of Historic Places , the official list of cultural landmarks in the United States. Shops or restaurants are not allowed in Belvedere and there are strict restrictions on building new homes.
