Ben Barnicoat (born December 20, 1996 in Chesterfield ) is a British automobile racing driver . He started in the European Formula 3 championship in 2016 .

Career

Barnicoat began his motorsport career in karting in 2006 , where he remained active until 2015. In 2010 he was accepted into the McLaren sponsorship program. Barnicoat won several karting championships in Great Britain and was also CIK-FIA European Champion in the KF2 class in 2012. Barnicoat made his debut in formula racing in 2013 , but remained active in karting.

At the end of 2013 Barnicoat drove his first monoposto races for Fortec Motorsport in the autumn championship of the British Formula Renault . He scored two victories and won the championship. In 2014 Barnicoat competed in a total of four Formula Renault championships for Fortec Motorsports . He competed the whole season in the Northern European Formula Renault and prevailed with 258 to 242 points in the championship fight against Louis Delétraz . He also competed regularly in the Alpine and British Formula Renault and as a guest starter in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . In 2015 Barnicoat competed for Fortec Motorsports in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. With three wins, he finished the season fourth overall. He also made guest starts in the Alpine Formula Renault. Barnicoat also took part in the autumn series of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship for Fortec Motorsports . In this he decided the championship with three wins.

In 2016 Barnicoat switched to the European Formula 3 championship . Initially, the Prema Powerteam was named as his racing team in November 2015 . However, at the end of 2015, Barnicoat was still doing Formula 3 test drives for Fortec Motorsports and HitechGP . At the beginning of 2016 he was finally confirmed as a Formula 3 driver at HitechGP. He won two races and finished ninth overall. Internally he was defeated by his teammate George Russell with 134 to 274 points.
