Beneşti ( German  Bägendorf , Hungarian Bendorf ) is a place in the region in Transylvania in Romania and belongs to the municipality of Alțâna (Alzen) . In 2004 the place had about 250 inhabitants, of whom about 200 belonged to the Roma ethnic group .

The place is located in the Harbach valley on the Harbach (Hârtibaciu) stream of the same name and has a station on the " Wusch " narrow-gauge railway, which is currently closed .

Beneşti was first mentioned in a document in 1391. The family of the former governor of Transylvania, Samuel von Brukenthal , owned land in Bägendorf.

Beneşti has two churches, of which the former Greek Catholic was also used by the evangelical Transylvanian Saxons of the place, who lived in the place until the end of the 18th century. The area of the Protestant cemetery is located above the culture house ( paşunea saşilor ). Above the village is the Romanian Orthodox Church , which is still in use today .

The site of a Jewish cemetery is on the left at the entrance to the village. The last Jewish family left the place around 1938.
