Benedict Heinrich Thering (born June 6, 1679 in Cölln an der Spree, now: Berlin ; † July 9, 1743 in Barleben ) was a German Protestant theologian and pastor in Barleben.

Thering was the eldest son of the Protestant theologian and city ​​superintendent in Berlin Lucas Heinrich Thering (1648–1722) and his wife Regina Agatha Schönebeck (1648–1713), the daughter of the mayor of Stendal Benedikt Schönebeck .

He married Johanna Sophia Röber on October 23, 1708

Her daughter Johanna Sophie Thering, (* 1717; † April 14, 1792 in Potsdam) was married to the Lutheran court and garrison preacher and inspector of the military orphanage in Potsdam Johann Friedrich Oesfeld (1709–1746). On May 5, 1698 he began studying theology at the University of Halle, which he continued in 1700 at the University of Giessen. In 1701, as a student, he published congratulations on the coronation of the first Prussian King Friedrich I. He completed his studies in 1703 with a dissertation under the chairmanship of Johann Heinrich Majus .

Professional activities

From 1707 until his death in 1743 Thering was pastor in Barleben.

Before being appointed pastor in Barleben, he was a field preacher.

When his father Lucas Heinrich Thering died in 1722, he published a note of thanks to his father.

After the death of his brother Johann Lucas Thering's wife , Anna Maria Thering b. Westerfeld, in 1732 he contributed as a contributor with a poem in a book of poems.

There is also a funeral pamphlet for the treasurer of the city of Magdeburg Josias Mörder (1646–1718).
