Thering married on October 18, 1674 in Stendal Regina Agatha Schönebeck, the daughter of the late mayor of Stendal Benedikt Schönebeck (1597-1665), son of the former mayor Bartholomäus Schönebeck (1548-1605), who left the Schönebeck Foundation .

The marriage resulted in seven children, of which Dorothea and Tobias died in childhood and one child was stillborn.

Life

First he attended the school in Aschersleben and was tutored by the deputy principal Melchior. After his father moved to Halberstadt , Thering attended the Schöningsche Fürstenschule under its rector Johann Joachim Mader from 1663 and from 1664 to 1666 the school in Halberstadt led by the rector Martin Tempel . He then studied theology for three years at the University of Helmstedt . When his parents lost their fortune due to the plague and were no longer able to support him, he took up a position as court master with the then commandant of Küstrin , Colonel von Marwitz, to raise his sons. From 1671 he was court master with the owner of the Seeburg rule Christian Wilhelm von Hahn (1621–1668). A few months in 1672 he received August Meschmann (1627–1679) from the preacher of the St. Martinikirche in Halberstadt , cf. in addition: further training, because he was supposed to be the vice principal for the local Martini school. Although he had great hopes for the position, he was not called.

However, he was then unexpectedly appointed field chaplain to the regiment of Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Homburg and in September 1672 took part in the course of the Dutch War , including in Alsace against the French armies on the Rhine.

After the peace treaty in 1673 the regiment came to Stendal. Thering resigned and was appointed assistant preacher at the Marienkirche in Stendal and in 1674 appointed subdeacon at the cathedral in Stendal. In 1676 he became a deacon at the Petrikirche in Berlin. In the years 1691–1722 he was archdeacon in Berlin at the Petrikirche and most recently senior of all the Evangelical Lutheran ministers (city superintendent) in Berlin.
