Benedict Pettschacher

Benedict Pettschacher OSB , also Benedictus Pettschacher and written in other variations thereof (* 1634 in Tamsweg ; † 25. March 1701 in St. Lambrecht ), was an Austrian Benedictine , university teachers and 1673-1681 Rector of the University of Salzburg .

Life

Benedict Pettschacher was born in Tamsweg in 1634 and made his profession on August 8, 1654 in the St. Lambrecht Abbey . Pettschacher studied at the University of Graz and taught philosophy at Admont Abbey . In 1666 he became a doctor and professor of theology and dogmatics at the University of Salzburg , where he was rector from 1673 to 1681 . After the end of his career as rector of the Benedictine University, he was confessor and confidante of the Prince Abbot of Kempten . This is likely to have been Honorius Roth von Schreckenstein or possibly his successor Rupert von Neuenstein . Pettschacher published various writings and books throughout his life. These include Theses theologicae de beatitudine et actibus humanis (1670), Theses theologicae de peccato habituali, gratia, et iustificatione (1671), Theses theologicae de cognoscibilitate, possibilitate, convenientia, & necessitate incarnationis (1672), Theses theologicae existentia, essentia physica et metaphysica sacramentorum (1673), Tractatus de incarnatione (1673), Tractatus theologici de sacramentis in genere, baptismo, confirmatione, et eucharistia (1675), Tractatus theologicus speculativo-practicus de restitutione (1676 de ) or Opusculum communi et in specie (1677). Most recently Pettschacher was prior from St. Lambrecht Abbey, where he died on March 25, 1701 at the age of about 67.

On behalf of the University of Salzburg, the Benedictine Odo Guetrath (1705-1759), also written by Oddo Guetrath, arranged and completed the printed and unprinted treatises by Pettschacher on a Theologia universa speculativo-practica , which was published in Salzburg in 1743 in three folio volumes.
