Benedictus Hubertus Danser

Benedictus Hubertus Danser (born May 24, 1891 in Schiedam , † October 18, 1943 in Groningen ) was a Dutch botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Danser ".

Life

BH Danser was the son of Cornelis Danser and Josephina Jaeckers. After studying at the University of Amsterdam , he received his doctorate in 1921 with the dissertation Contribution à la systématique du Polygonum lapathifolium (contribution to the systematics of Polygonum lapathifolium ). In the following years he first worked as a teacher in Haarlem . In 1925 he was employed as a research assistant at the Bogor Herbarium and Botanical Garden in the Dutch East Indies (today: Indonesia), where he stayed until the end of 1929. Then he returned to the Netherlands and took up an assistant position in Groningen. On June 18, 1930, he married Emelia Paulina ("Emmy") de Savornin Lohman (1898–1969) in Amsterdam. In 1931 he became an adjunct professor and in 1934 a regular professor of plant classification in Groningen. He was a specialist in the knotweed family (Polygonaceae), pitcher plants (Nepenthaceae) and belt flowers (Loranthaceae).

Honor taxon

The botanist Cornelis van Steenis named after him, the plant genera Dansera Steenis from the plant family of Caesalpiniaceae and Danserella balls from the family of loranthaceae (Loranthaceae).
