Benedikt Weichert (born July 4, 1979 in Dortmund ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper and current coach .

Career

Benedikt Weichert began playing ice hockey in the position of goalkeeper in his youth. In the 1997/98 season he was in the squad of the Herner EV in the second-class 1st League North. Weichert also played in the Junior Bundesliga for the Iserlohner EC and the Moskitos Essen . His other stations were the junior teams Saanich Braves from Canada and Littleton Hawks from the USA . Due to a broken kneecap, he ended his career early.

Weichert then contacted GDI , a North American goalkeeper training company to which he had been a member since 1997 and through which he was promoted himself. He then began training as a goalkeeper coach under Ian Clark , the goalkeeping coach of the Vancouver Canucks , and then worked with young goalkeepers from high junior classes. Weichert has been director of GDI Central Europe , an offshoot of the Goaltender Development Institute , in which he also has a minority stake, since 2006 . A year later he started organizing his own training camps for professional and young goalkeepers and also became editor-in-chief of the German-language edition of The Goalie News .

In the 2008/09 season Weichert worked for the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg with goalkeepers Daniar Dshunussow and Oliver Jonas . He went back into the 2009/10 season with the Grizzlies. Shortly before completing his business studies at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences , he also became the goalkeeping coach of the Iserlohn Roosters to support the young German goalie duo made up of Sebastian Stefaniszin and Danny from the Birken . He had been responsible for the Young Roosters for several years and thus also included Iserlohn junior players in his work.
