The Benedictine Kergonan is since 1897 French monastery of the Benedictine in Plouharnel ( Roman Catholic Diocese of Vannes ) in Brittany .

history

The Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes founded the monastery of Sainte-Anne de Kergonan in the Morbihan department near Carnac in 1897 , which was elevated to a priory in 1898 and an abbey in 1914 (in exile) . In 1901 the monks moved to Belgium (Linciaux estate in Ciney near Namur ) before the Third Republic , which was hostile to the monastery . In 1920 they were able to return. From 1943 their monastery was confiscated by the German occupiers and they had to stay in Nétumières Castle (in Erbrée ). In 1975 the monastery church was inaugurated. The monk Henri Le Saux (1910–1973), who went to India in 1948 and worked together with Jules Monchanin (1895–1957) and the Trappist Francis Acharya in meditation centers ( Ashram ), became known.
