Benno Meyer

Benno Werner Liborius Meyer (born January 5, 1843 in Damme , † July 8, 1904 in Bad Ems ) was a German politician of the Center Party .

Life

Benno Meyer was the son of the doctor Martin Josef Meyer (1804–1879) and his wife Wilhelmine geb. Nieberg (1818-1871). After attending grammar school in Vechta , he studied agriculture at the educational institute in Botzlar and at the Agricultural Academy in Poppelsdorf , where he passed the state examination in agriculture in 1863. From 1864 to 1872 he was estate inspector in Upper Lusatia and then took over the farm of his unmarried uncle Johann Franz Heinrich Meyer (1801–1872) in Holte near Damme.

He played a leading role in the agricultural organizations and in the political life of the Oldenburger Münsterland . I.a. he was a member of the board of the Westphalian Farmers' Association , the central board of the Oldenburg Agricultural Society and a deputy member of the German Agriculture Council. He was also active in local politics and was a member of the local council as well as the board of the local associations Damme and Vechta. From 1881 until his death he was a member of the Oldenburg Landtag as a center member. There he represented the agrarian and religious interests of the South Oldenburg farmers.

From 1874 Meyer was married to Elisabeth Catharina Clara Ge (e) rs-Wenstrup (1851–1879) for the first time. After her untimely death, he married Maria Elisabeth Rohling (1854–1887) in 1881. The son Franz Ignatz Meyer (1882–1945), who came from this connection, was also a member of the state parliament and a leading member of the Catholic farmers' organizations
